Maharaja

“When his prized possession gets stolen, a barber seeks help from the police, who jeer at his request – until they learn what they’re really looking for.” – Netflix

The story revolves around Maharaja, played by Vijay Sethupathi, a loving father who works at a barber shop. He lives happily with his daughter and Laxmi. When you first hear the name Laxmi, you might think it’s his wife, but it’s not. Maharaja’s wife tragically died in a truck accident, and Laxmi is actually the name of an iron dustbin. During the accident, this dustbin saved his daughter’s life, and since then, they have treated it as a family member.

One night, thieves break into Maharaja’s house, assault him, and steal the dustbin. Desperate to get Laxmi back, he goes to the police station to file a report. However, the police dismiss his plea and mock him for his unusual attachment to the dustbin. Despite their ridicule, Maharaja refuses to give up. He even bribes the police with 5 to 7 lakh rupees to get them to take him seriously.

From this point, the movie escalates, pulling the audience into a whirlwind of suspense and unexpected twists. The film keeps you on the edge of your seat, making it impossible to stop watching until the very end.

Vijay Sethupathi and Anurag Kashyap deliver top-notch performances, leaving no room for complaints. The movie surpassed my expectations, starting simply but gradually building up suspense that gives you goosebumps. The presentation is excellent, creating a suspenseful atmosphere that is the film’s main strength.

The movie explores the lengths a father will go to for his daughter. Both the hero and the antihero share a deep love for their daughters. While Maharaja is a hardworking man who earns his living honestly, Anurag Kashyap’s character resorts to theft out of love for his daughter. The film shows that even the most simple and kind – hearted person can become violent when they lose something they love deeply.

If you’re looking for a movie to watch and you have a Netflix subscription, I strongly recommend checking out this film. It’s only 2 hours and 20 minutes long. Some people might find it a bit slower than other masala entertainment movies, but don’t skip any scenes every moment is interconnected, and you might miss an important plot point if you fast-forward
